There are many EPOS products in the market which meets all the standard requirements. So often it can be a very difficult task to select the right solution. We suggest filtering out based on the following:
Customer Base: An epos solution with a good customer base will ensure it is a tried and tested product. Look for at least 100,000 installations.
Support network: If the solution is supported by only one dealer or company it would be risky as if you fall out with the company or dealer you would not have any one else to run to. Surprisingly in our experience this happens many times in this industry. So don’t allow your business to be held to ransom by your epos supplier.
Scalability/ Customization / Integration Features: As your business grows so does your system requirement. Your business process would evolve over time you’re your system would need a bit of tweaking to meet the requirements. Ensure the solution is easily customizable and can talk to other systems for integration requirements.
Technology: Ensure the solution is developed on the latest technology so that your solution does not have compatibility/performance issues in the near future.
Proprietary Hardware: Our advice: Stay away from these!...This is the oldest trick in the book in which you get tied into a suppliers proprietary hardware. These often prove expensive over time and does not give you the flexibility to select different hardware peripherals
PCI Credentials: If you are handling credit card data, your EPOS solution should be PCI certified or you could be hit with hefty fines from the banks. Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is mandatory and applies to all businesses processing, storing or transmitting cardholder information manually or electronically.
